The following are accounts of training, teaching and being part of the Revolution family from coaches, students and friends of the club.

‘Training at Revolution is different to anywhere else I've trained before. One of the first things I noticed very quickly is that there are no meatheads here – no-one who wants to just show off or get the better of anyone else in the gym. Everyone who trains here simply wants to train hard and get better, no ego.’

’The coaching you get is real coaching, not some guy standing at the front of a class 'barking orders at you'. My performance has increased fantastically under Phil's coaching and influence.’

‘My understanding of what I want from my training and what direction I should take, has come from many, many chat's with Phil, usually over tea or coffee at Starbucks. This is what Phil is all about, he's informal, informative and genuinely cares about the people he trains with, he wants you to get better than him. A quality found in far too few martial arts instructors.’

Marc Knowles – Coach, Fusion Kickboxing (our sister club)

‘Phil Wright is the "thinking man's" martial arts instructor. He has that rare gift of being able to pass on techniques to his students at the conceptual level. It's like the difference being giving someone a fish and giving someone a fishing rod.’

‘You'll learn to think for yourself, rather than have some robotic dogma drummed into you. Training is relaxed and 'no pressure' – beginners, both sexes and kids are catered for.’

‘If you are a competitive fighter, great. If it's just a hobby, great. It's just a cool place to be. Highly Recommended.’

Jonathon Cheung – Founder, SFUK

‘Training here feels like the most natural thing in the world, everyone is friendly and welcoming to the new guys / girls and it is really easy to make friends here.’

‘Having fun is the most important thing to me and that seems to be at the top of the agenda here as well. No one is above anyone else, we're all on the same level... a very fun and safe place to train and one i enjoy immensely.’

Gareth Rogers – Revolution Student

‘Before I started training at Revolution only 6 months ago. I had a lot of preconceptions about training in martial arts with no prior training or experience. I felt quite intimidated about starting from scratch and thought there would be a lot of ego flying about, and macho attitudes aimed towards new students. ’

‘How WRONG could I be’

‘The intro course allows you to train with people with similar experience to you and shows you a range of techniques from stand-up down to the groundwork side of training. Letting you know what training at Revolution is all about and helping you to bridge the gap into the main classes.’

‘As for the other students, everyone is very friendly both on the intro course and in the main classes. Everyone shares similar outlooks and attitudes towards training and everyday life, offering advice and tips on techniques, strategy and helping in whatever way they can.’

‘You will often find us talking and going through things hours after training has finished, just showing how much people are involved in training and willing to help the other members of the club.‘

’There seems to be a consensus of respect for one another whether it is your first lesson or you are a regular. It's not really joining a club but more a family – every student being nurtured to achieve their goals and reach there full potential.’

‘Now I have become a regular and I am trying to preserve this attitude towards training by helping, not only the new students coming through, but with the rest of the class and even the coaches. Even though people may be more or less experienced then you it doesn't matter and people are more than willing to listen to what you have to say to help not only themselves, but help you out and in turn others in the future.’

‘If you’re interested in starting training pop down to a session, the door is always open for you to come and watch and see for yourselves what a great thing we have got going at Revolution.’

‘See you soon.’

Adam Adshead – Revolution Student

‘Having known and trained with Phil Wright for well over 10 years now it was my pleasure to have both him and his club as members of my Association.‘

’The club has proven to be very popular within the group with many looking to Phil for help within the Submission Fighting field’

Andrew Morrell – President & Founder, C.M.A.A

‘I visited Revolution with one of my students to teach a seminar. The club has a great atmosphere with everyone being very welcoming and eager to learn. We really enjoyed the session and will come back in the near future to do some training with this great group.‘

Nathan ‘Levo’ Leverton– Total Grappling

‘Thank you again for taking your time to come all the way to Kent to spend time with my class recently at the submission fighting seminar.’

‘Everyone that attended has asked if I could pass on my thanks to yourself and JJ for a really great day of tuition. All of the students commented on how much they enjoyed the day, how much they learnt, how it complements their own studies and what a great and entertaining instructor you are. This is exactly why we joined the CMAA as a way of cross-pollinating and expanding our horizons outside of Ju Jitsu by training with and learning from people like yourself.’

‘Thank you once again.’

‘We look forward to seeing you soon’

Neil Froggatt – 2nd Dan Ju Jitsu, Shiro Bara Ju Jitsu

‘During the few sessions and courses with Phil Wright I've been able to attend (I'm based in Kent and Phil in Stockport, Manchester) I've learnt many new techniques and approaches to submission fighting and therefore self defence that I've added on to my JuJitsu base.’

‘These are the techniques I find myself thinking about when I have a quiet moment.  I'm trying not to get carried away when explaining the effect on my training and ability Phil's teaching has had, but despite enjoying my JuJitsu, I wish I'd met Phil a long time ago.’

‘Phil's personality means he is a natural teacher, someone not only with the knowledge, but also the ability to transfer that knowledge through enthusiasm, patience and a willingness to share all he knows.  His knowledge runs deep, any questions receive a clear and concise answer.  What he teaches has been generated through not only taking the best bits of each system he has studied (a common claim), but also by integrating these techniques into a structured learning programme that gives people the appropriate skills at the right time of their development.  This is a continuous process, as new techniques and ideas are developed around the world and in different arenas, Phil will be integrating the successful ones into his system.’

‘I look forward to my next visit up North so I can train with Phil and his students and I urge all martial artists and people with an interest in fighting to go along to Phil's classes and have your eyes opened.  You will be pleasantly surprised.’

Keith Casson – 1st Dan Ju Jitsu, Shiro Bara Ju Jitsu
