Good book on sports nutrition

Following on from the discussion last night on nutrition, the benefits of fruit and veg (Doug!) and the terrors of creatine, I thought you might all be interested in the following book. Nutrition for Serious Athletes, I have a loaner copy if anyone wants to have a look at it.

It goes through how your body breaks down and uses different types of food, hydration, supplements and sample diet plans covering different calorific intakes, different sport-specific needs and how to structure diets for the run up to competitions or fit into cyclical training patterns. Well worth a look at.

I would be very interested to know what this book has to say on creatine, as i was recommended it by a guy at the gym and found no proof of short term damage to your health, although there are concerns about long term effects because no such studies have taken place. See here

Hey Jim. I'd always worry about things recommended by people 'at the gym'. The main problem with creatine is that it leeches water out of your system to put it into your muscles, you look buff but none of your organs work properly. Everyone I know who trains and has taken creatine has found a marked decrease in their performance, particularly cardio.

It was one of the gym trainers but i know what you mean. Organs not working would really suck, I much prefer my organs to my muscles lol. Saying that I get the impression that it's a highly prevalent supplement, not just at the gym where i work but in pro athletes too.

Are you really Jeff Lacy? WOW
Anyway Chavi aside, yea I really need to sort my diet out, that was supposed to be my plan for this year but it kinda fell apart around Jan 1st.
I've actually been close to buying that book a few times as a lot of people have said really good stuff about it.

Problem I usually find with diet plans and diet books is that they never really cater for someone like me - gluten free diet and diabetic with a vast appetite for carbs. Always interested to see what can be done with my diet!
